What is an Inter-State Transfer (IST)?
IST refers to a Soldier transferring from one state’s National Guard to another states National guard.
For example: IST from the Indiana Army National Guard to the Illinois Army National Guard and vice-versa. A Soldier can transfer to any of the 50 states and 4 territories. Soldiers are offered the opportunity to re-class as an IST. Soldiers usually transfer to another state due to family, employment, and education reasons.
To get an IST started, contact your unit Readiness NCO and inform them of your plan to IST. They will help you complete an IST packet for our office to process.
If you have any questions, please contact our office.
